Since the practice was established in 1994 the demand for specialist consultancy advice on access improvements has grown, driven partly by legislation and partly by changing social expectations. Today DBA is a multi-disciplinary practice involved with projects ranging from large scale urban and historic landscapes to listed buildings, cultural projects, residential schemes and transport interchanges.
We are one of the few established design practices working in the access field and are distinguished by the fact that our staff includes architectural, landscaping, planning and surveying skills. As recognised experts in the field we contribute to a range of national forums including the Design Council and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and the British Standards Institute (BSI). We have written the BSI’s Inclusive Urban Design guide, published in October 2013 and contributed to BS 9266 on housing standards in addition to coordinating an accessible hotels forum.
